Changes in the draft waiver document

It is now clear that there will be changes in the draft waiver document before it is presented to the NSG for its consideration at its next meeting in early September. Changes will include some conditions that will be binding on India. This even as the United States continues to affirm its commitment to secure for India a “clean waiver” from the NSG. Despite all the grandstanding, questions are being raised on whether Washington did enough to push through the waiver. More importantly , the demand for provisions akin to the Hyde Act is something that the United States is itself keen on pushing through. The question being asked is: Is the Indian government willing to walk out of the India-US civilian nuclear deal in case “conditions” are imposed?
